Name:Huts Circle '42' and '43' at Watern Oke settlement, Dartmoor Forest

Summary

Huts Circle '42' and '43' are two conjoined huts at Watern Oke settlement. The northern hut is 4 metres diameter with walls 1.4 metres wide by up to 1 metre high and the southern hut is 3.5 metres diameter with walls 1.8 metres wide by up to 0.9 metres high. Excavations in 1905 revealed fireplaces near to the northern wall of both structures and flint in the southern building

Full description

Anderson, I. K., 1906, 11th Report of the Dartmoor Exploration Committee, 108, huts 42 & 43 (Article in Serial). SDV337055.

Two of a group of hut circles at Watern Oke. Hut 42. Diameter 2.74m, roughly built of boulders, entrance at south-west, fireplace at north. Hut 43. Large, fine and circular and well built. Entrance at south, fireplace at north; a piece of flint was found.

(1992) SX 5642 8340 Hut circle terraced into the hillslope. Includes two conjoined hut circles and is composed of single orthostat walling. The interior of the northern structure measures 4m in diameter and is defined by a 1.4m wide wall standing up to 1m high. The second structure measures 3.5m in diameter and is defined by a 1.8m wide wall standing up to 0.9m high. The doorway faces south and is defined by large upright slabs. Excavations by the Dartmoor Exploration Committee in 1905 revealed fire-places near to the northern wall of both structures and flint in the southern building.
