Summary

Boundary walls associated with hut group recorded on the north side of Ger Tor by Gerrard (1992). Gerrard described two lengths of curved boundary wall associated with a cluster of five stone hut circles situated within a large enclosure on a SE facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Tavy. Boundary wall described linking huts, composed of a 1.2m wide and 0.5m high rubble and earth bank.

Full description

Gerrard, S., 1990-2002, Monument Protection Programme. Archaeological Item Dataset., MPP 129291 (Report - Survey). SDV277946.

(03/11/1992) SX 5474 8313 The two lengths of curved boundary wall associated with a cluster of five stone hut circles are situated within a large enclosure on a SE facing slope overlooking the valley of the River Tavy. The boundary wall links huts (subsheets 2 + 3) and is composed of a 1.2m wide and 0.5m high rubble and earth bank. The E wall is longer and partially encloses hut (subsheet 4). It is not clear whether these walls were originally more extensive and have since been robbed or buried by peat accumulation or whether they represent unfinished enclosures.

Probert, S. + Fletcher, M. + Newman, P., 1998, Willsworthy Training Area, Peter Tavy, Devon: An Archaeological survey by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (Report - Survey). SDV350638.

(03/08/1998) There are no hut circles or enclosures at the NGR described which lies on the steep slope immediately NE of Ger Tor. The descriptions probably relate to the settlement 225m to the NNE (SX 58 SE 5).
