South Lode or (Engine) Shaft at South Wheal Fanny shown on 19C maps with a flat rod system to the east. The survey in 2002 found the 12m wide blocked shaft with the ground on the eastern side cut away to form the flat rod cutting. Two curved walls c6m long x c4m high were found on the north & south sides of the shaft. The spoil tip was located on the southern & southeastern sides. The 1867 map showed a capstan to the southwest of the shaft of which a 4m x 2m x 0.4m high platform was located. Other details: Sites 220.
