Name:Hut south of enclosure in settlement north of Hook Lake, Harford

Summary

Hut circle south of the northern enclosure within prehistoric settlement north of Hook Lake. Recorded on the late 19th century historic map and by the Ordnance Survey in 1950 and 1978. A well-preserved hut circle. Diameter measures 8m. Walling is of large turf and heather covered stones 1.5m wide and 0.6m high. There is a well-defined entrance to the south-east. Recently surveyed in 2018.

(08/05/1950) SX 6406 6531 hut circle D. One of a group of nine. A well-preserved hut circle. Diameter measures 8m. Walling is of large turf and heather covered stones 1.5m wide and 0.6m high. There is a well-defined entrance to the south-east.

(12/01/1978) Between settlements SX 66 NW 47 and SX 66 NW 50 there are five hut circles as follows.
SX 6405 6531. Diameter (internal) 6.5m. wall thickness 2.0m. Type 2 hut with entrance to south-east. Surveyed at 1:10 000 on PFD.

Hut Circle '1' of 7.4 metres diameter at 'Hook Lake North 2' is attached to the outside of the pound and a subsidiary Hut Circle '2' of 2.5 metres diameter opens alongside.

A hut circle 5 metres south of enclosure (MDV 5135) which is attached to the encosure by a slight rubble wall bank. The hut has stone walls surviving in good condition, with a cleared level floor. The internal diameter is approximately 8 metres with a well defined opening on the south-east side.
