Cannon from 'Crown Prize', sunk c 1692 (contra press reports of 'Armada ship'). Removed to Plymouth by Army bomb disposal squad.

Lieutenant Kidman (Plymouth Clearance Diving Unit) describes an iron cannon, c 2m long, muzzle diam c 5", bore c 2.5". Found on beach by sport divers and mistaken for torpedo.

Inspected -/10/1994. Approx 4" long (contra Robbins), covered in very hard concretion. No markings visible, and removal of concretion would obliterate any surviving markings. Possibly Swedish.

Unknown source at HMS Drake (Bomb Disposal) reports that the company which dredged up the cannon wish to retain it. Now in a tank of water, pending decision on ownership.

Photos supplied by Navy Clearance Diving Unit show an unmistakable cannon, similar in appearance to cannon recovered from Bigbury Bay (see George), 18c HMS Maidstone (see de Maisonneuve) and HMS Hazardous (see Owen).
