Turton, S. D., 1994, Archaeological Assessment of South Molton Water Supply, 5 (Report - Assessment). SDV80910.
East street was the original main street of medieval South Molton, along which many of the burgage plots were laid. Cock states that in the early 19th century there was only a paved central cartway, but "when the footpaths... were flagged, the roadway was widened". It is likely that this involved demolitions at the junctions of Station Road and New Road.
