Earthworks associated with clay workings are visible as mounds and pits on aerial photographs of 1946, at Horsemills Fields, Kingsteignton.
Three roughly circular pits 6 to 9m across are visible in a north-west to south-east alignment, surrounded by large irregularly shaped mounds, probably spoil heaps. A linear bank runs along the south edge of the pits. This is aligned on a tramway depicted on the 1930s 4th edition 25inch Ordnance Survey map and is probably an extension of this feature. The pits do not correspond with any features depicted on the 1930s map, and therefore probably relate to a phase of extractive activity post-dating the shafts and cranes depicted on this map.
All earthworks visible in 1946 were subsequently destroyed by wider scale quarrying and none of the features are visible on digital images derived from aerial photographs of 2015.
