Name:Hut circle in settlement within field system east of Raddick Lane

Summary

Hut circle within a large settlement. Terraced into the hillslope and is of the simple plan and double orthostat walling type. Interior measures 6.3m in diameter and is defined by a 1.4m wide wall standing up to 0.8m high (1993 data). The Ordnance Survey (1977) record the walls as 1.5m high; evidence of post-Medieval rebuilding.

Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division, 1977, SX57SE2 (Ordnance Survey Archaeology Division Card). SDV240141.

(19/08/1977) One hut at SX 5776 7019 has obviously been rebuilt, its walls standing to a height of 1.5 metres.

(SX 5776 7018) Hut circle within a large settlement. Terraced into the hillslope and is of the simple plan and double orthostat walling type. Interior measures 6.3m in diameter and is defined by a 1.4m wide wall standing up to 0.8m high.
A post-medieval drystone field boundary sits on top of the southern wall of this hut. This building is attached to a boundary wall forming part of an irregular aggregate field system.
