HER Number:MDV52369
Name:Hut E in settlement on Hingston Hill, Walkhampton

Summary

Hut circle recorded by the Ordnance Survey (1950), as well as Gerrard (1993) and Butler (1994). Terraced into the hillslope and of the simple plan and coursed walling type. Interior measures 6.3 metres in diameter and is defined by a 1.4 metres wide wall standing up to 1.5 metres high. The height of the wall strongly suggests that this hut was re-built during the post-medieval period, perhaps for use as a shelter or animal pound. The doorway survives as a gap in the surrounding wall, is lined on both sides and faces south-south-west. This hut is attached to two lengths of boundary wall. One leads to hut D (MDV52368) and the other curves to hut M (MDV52370).
