Full description

Royal Engineers, 1940, Plans of Taunton Stop Line, Axminster Union & RD (Cartographic). SDV325259.

Pillbox S.44.a recorded on Royal Engineer's plan. Pillbox S.46a is a short distance to the east.

Royal Air Force, 1948, RAF/CPE/UK/2431/3200 (Aerial Photograph). SDV132197.

Possible pillbox visible on 1948 Royal Air Force aerial photograph in corner of area of allotment gardens. This would be an appropriate location for a pillbox, covering the perimeter of the Axminster fortified area at the north end of an anti-tank ditch. However, an eastward orientation would be more likely.

Wills, H., 1985, Wills, H. 1985 Pillboxes, 74 (Monograph). SDV336210.

Wills lists two polygonal pillboxes of mixed construction facing west at SY301983.

Horner, B., 1994, Taunton Stop Line Survey (Personal Comment). SDV360458.

Location map in Taunton Stop Line Survey file.

Dobinson, C. S., 1998, The Taunton Stop Line. Component Listing, 4 (Report - non-specific). SDV109230.

Pillbox of type FW3/22 with 3 feet 6 inch thick walls.
