Sub-oval and irregularly shaped earthworks of pits and banks, between 9-32 metres long, are visible on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019.
Two of the pits correspond with earthworks labelled as ‘Quarry’ and as ‘Old Quarries’ on the early-20th century Second Edition Ordnance Survey map. Earthworks are also shown in this area on the 2021 Ordnance Survey MasterMap.
The earthworks are therefore interpreted as post-medieval or 19th century quarries with associated spoil heaps that had passed out of use by the early-20th century.
A quarry to the east MDV53117 is probably associated with this record.
The earthworks are not visible on other available aerial imagery owing to thick tree cover of Braunder Wood.
