The earthworks correspond to a quarry depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First Edition map and to ‘Old Quarries’ depicted on the Second Edition map. A small earthwork is depicted on mid-20th century maps.
The earthworks are interpreted as extractive pits of mid to late 19th century that ceased to be worked by the early 20th century.
