Full description

'Ferry' shown on 19th century map across the River Tavy to the south of the later ferry.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

'Ferry' shown on early 20th century map from part of Lopwell Mine on the western side of the River Tavy to Lopwell Wood on the eastern side.

Ordnance Survey, 1904 - 1906, Second Edition Ordnance Survey 25 inch Map (Cartographic). SDV325644.

'Ferry' is marked crossing the River Tavy. It should be noted that the ferry crossing has moved further north from the earlier crossing marked on the First Editon Ordnance Survey map.

Ordnance Survey, 1907, 111SE (Cartographic). SDV242025.

David Willey, 2015, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty River Weirs Project- River Tavy Denham Bridge to Lopwell (Report - Assessment). SDV366117.

The ferry across the Tavy at Lopwell is shown on the Ordnance Survey of 1883 and 1907 but disappears with the introduction of the dam. It has not yet been possible to identify the landing points on either bank although on the Bere Peninsular bank there is a disused mineshaft and a two storey structure that would seem to be associated with it. This house was used by the ferry workers.
