Three depressions are visible as earthworks on visualisations derived from lidar data captured in 2019 on the south and south-west facing slopes of South Wood. One irregular shaped depression circa 15 by 25 metres is situated in the north part of the wood adjacent to a field. The other irregular shaped depression circa 12 by 30 metres is situated immediately adjacent to a road in the west part of the wood. The oval depression circa 9 by 12 metres is also situated adjacent to a road in the south part of the wood.
Each of the depressions correspond approximately with depicted old quarries on the Ordnance Survey 25 inch First and Second Edition maps. They are interpreted as extractive pits of post-medieval to early 20th century origin.
