Summary
Built between 1896-1897, to provide suitable accommodation for Gidleigh's rectors. Functioned as a rectory until the 1970s, when it was sold as a private dwelling. Stable block directly to the north of the house is contemporary, while the northern building is late 20th century.

Full description

'Rectory' is depicted on the early 20th century Ordnance Survey historic map.

The Old Rectory was built between 1896-1897, when the Church of England decided a larger and more up-to-date residence was needed for the rectors of Gidleigh. House is faced with granite, which may have come from disused farm buildings at the Barton, and the upper floor is mock Tudor style. The tin shed in the garden was used for parish meetings before 1928. Residence of the Gidleigh rectors until the 1970s, when the house was sold and became a private dwelling.
