Narrow curvilinear earthwork pits were visible on aerial photographs of 1947 on the east-facing slopes of St Cyres’ Plantation, Combe Raleigh plantation. The pits do not correspond with any features depicted on the OS First Edtion 25 inch map. They are therefore interpreted as quarries or extractive pits of probable post-medieval to 19th century date that passed out of use prior to the 1890s.
