Ordnance Survey, 1855-1895, First Edition 1:500 Town Map (Cartographic). SDV338879.

Fellmongery recorded on 1855-1895 1:500 town map. Several buildings are shown in the triangle between the causeway and the leat, to the south of the Wool and Manure Stores. Also depicted are two rows of three small rectangles which are possibly tanning pits.

Bone, M., 1973, Barnstaple's Industrial Archaeology, 18 (Monograph). SDV78228.

Fellmongery (Pilton Causeway). In Pilton yard a fellmongery occupied the area between the stores and the mill leat. This is shown on the map of 1889.

Timms, S. C., 21/06/1983, Pilton Tanyard (Personal Comment). SDV90605.

Wood's plan of 1843 shows a tanyard at this location. It is still used as a sheepskin buisiness taking water off the mill leat. The north-south aligned building adjacent to Pilton Causeway may date from the first half of the 19th century.
