Rectilinear platforms are visible as earthworks on digital images derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017, terracing the slopes north and south of the ridge along which Exeter Road runs, west of All Saints Church, Newton Abbot. The platform north of the road measures circa 60m by 22m in size. That to the south of the road measures circa 36m by 24m in size.
The visible earthworks do not correspond with any enclosures or earthworks depicted on the 19th century maps available to the survey. The platform north of Exeter Road does correspond with a rectilinear enclosure depicted on the Ordnance Survey 4th Edition 25inch map of the 1930s and visible on aerial photographs of 1946. The southern platform was not enclosed.
The earthworks are interpreted as terraces or platforms probably representative of 20th century enclosure or development, but it is possible that this was utilising pre-existing features.

Heath, G., Feb 1999, Untitled Source (Personal Comment). SDV286037.

Earthworks, possibly a platform iin the south-west corner of the field to the west of All Saints Church.
