Full description

Exeter Archaeology, 1993 - 1994, Untitled Source (Archive - Survey). SDV339669.
Vis=14/6/1994 (emafu) extensive remains of abandoned farmstead. Shown and described on tm as "houses and court" no.1172. Shown on 1st ed.6" map as' irishcombe moor farm'. W range of buildings grouped around and almost enclosing courtyard. Existing remains show same arrangement as follows:.
A. Along n side is raised area overgrown by trees; traces of walling representing remains of range of buildings. B. In ne corner ruin of building built of cob on clay-bonded stone footings. N wall standing 5m e-w x 2m high; tumbled stone to s and cob on w side. Total extent of building c.10m e-w x 4m n-s (?).
C. On e side is mound of stone and timber demolition material c.7m n-s x 3m e-w. Also a mound overgrown with trees c 10m n-s x 6m e-w. Unclear if collapsed cob building or material cleared from elsewhere. D. In se corner is ruin of building (house ?) aligned e-w. Ne wall corner survives 1.9m high; built of clay-bonded stone with mortared brick edging; stone wall base extends w for 5m; cob superstructure presumably; lot of scattered stone and brick; total extent of building c.11m e-w x 5m n-s.
E. On s side is single-storey barn aligned e-w, to w of (d). Barn has been rebuilt and roofed to be 8m e-w x 5m n-s, but stone footings extend e for further 5m. S wall is original cob on stone footings. An original (?) stone-built round pillar marks present ne corner n, e and w walls are of breeze blocks (rchm, citing dyer).
