Full description

Stead, P. M. + Matthews, A. J., 1993, Archaeological Evaluation of Lloyds Bank Premises, South Street, Totnes, 4 (Report - Evaluation). SDV157487.

The Exeter Museum Archaeological Field Unit evaluation recorded the construction trench of a west wall cutting through garden soil. An earlier, clay bonded wall, represented by a stub of foundation, had formed a corner with a cross wall running eastward. Subsequently the west wall was entirely rebuilt in its present form. The standing north wall which forms the back of Lloyds Bank, abuts the west wall and was found to have been cut through garden soil.

One of four fragments of clay bonded wall footings. Probably belonged to a two-room house built at rear of main High Street tenement in the late medieval or early post-medieval period.
