Summary

Settlement at Caseytown dates to at least the 16th century, based on documentary sources. Farm is shown on the 1840s Tithe Map, but has been substantially changed by the later 19th century historic map depiction. Farmstead included in Dartmoor National Park Authority Historic Farmstead survey (2003), but only the stable building was recorded.

'Caseytown' is shown on the late 19th century historic map; large house (built 1867), with stable building to south-east. Further group of four farm buildings shown to the north-west of the house.

Caseytown is recorded in documents dating to 1518-29 as 'Casytown', later (1613) as 'Casetowne', the first element of the name probably refers to a former owner's name.

Caseytown is of 16th century origin.

Farmstead included in survey. Visited on 13/12/2003. Former farmhouse, described as a 'gentleman's residence' (not included in survey) dates to 1867. Only stable building (19th century) to south-east of farm included. It appears nothing remains of the buildings on the 1843 tithe map.
