A roughly rectilinear possible ditched enclosure of later prehistoric or Roman date is visible on aerial photographs of 1990 as somewhat indistinct cropmarks on the south-east facing slopes to the north-west of Great Bowley.
The possible enclosure is defined by a cropmark of a ditch between 2 and 3 metres wide, enclosing an area at least 30 metres by 23 metres in size. However, the north-eastern boundary appears to deviate from a rectilinear plan, at an angle of approximately 45 degrees, potentially defining a larger and more irregularly shaped enclosure. Possible internal features including a narrow curvilinear ditch and oval cropmark of a possible pit up to 7 metres in diameter are also visible; further work is recommended to investigate their relationship with the outer enclosure ditch.
