A possible oval ditched enclosure of probable later prehistoric date was visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark on an east-facing slope at Bowls Cross, Poltimore. The enclosure cropmark of the possible buried ditch was on average no more than 1 metre wide, defining a slightly irregular oval approximately 27 metres long, north to south, and 23 metres wide east to west. A background pattern of cropmarks forming over natural geological frost-cracking makes the identification of internal features and an entrance problematical.
Many of the aerial photographs consulted by the survey are copies of DAPs held by the Historic England Archive. In some cases these have been recorded as separate sources. This is because variations in the way the prints have been processed could result in images on which archaeological features are visible to a greater or lesser degree.
