Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

The Lympstone Tithe Map shows this area as already meadow by 1839.

A small tidal creek, now pasture, was once an Elizabethan breakers yard. It ceased to be a creek after the advent of railway cut it off from the sea. A ships mast has been reused as a beam in Sowden House.

An archaeological watching brief was carried out during the South West Water Lympstone sewage scheme. The western section of the pipe was laid across the site of reclaimed tidal creek believed to have been the site of a former shipbuilding yard. No features or deposits of archaeological significance were encountered.
