Name:Leat south-west of Whiteworks Tin Mine

Summary

Earthwork remains of a post Medieval leat which probably originated on a small stream approximately 400 metres west of Whiteworks Mine. An archaeological field survey in 1989 identified about a 450 metre section of the now dry leat. The leat survives as a ditch 1.4m wide and 0.2m deep, and runs southwest-northeast, some 25 metres southeast of the Devonport Leat (Monument HOB UID 1463454). The downstream end is lost in the large openworks at the centre of Whiteworks Mine.

(15/05/1989) SX 60767063 to SX 61067098. About 450m of a now dry leat, 1.4m wide and 0.2m deep, runs SW-NE, some 25m SE of the Devonport Leat (Monument HOB UID 1463454). It probably originated on a small stream approximately 400m W of Whiteworks Mine. The downstream end is lost in the large openworks at the centre of the mine.
