Name:Pillow mound above the West Dart River

Summary

Well preserved pillow mound measuring 13m long and from 5m to 7m wide; it is 0.7m high on the uphill side and 1.3m high on the downhill side. The well-defined ditch has a maximum depth of 0.5m. There is no external evidence of stone on the mound which has been superficially disturbed by recent rabbit acitivity and desultory digging.

Royal Commission for the Historical Monuments of England, 1987-1993, Duchy Farms Project Survey Visit, M. J. Fletcher (Report - Survey). SDV350839.

(03/02/1988) SX 61147472. A pillow mound identified during field investigation. It lies on a steep S-facing, boulder-covered hillslope above the West Dart River at 340m OD.
The well preserved earthen mound with its long axis lying down the slope measures 13m long and from 5m to 7m wide; it is 0.7m high on the uphill side and 1.3m high on the downhill side. The well-defined ditch has a maximum depth of 0.5m. There is no external evidence of stone on the mound which has been superficially disturbed by recent rabbit activity and desultory digging.
