Full description

Worth, R. H., 1949, The Moorstone Age, Part 1, 327 (Article in Serial). SDV274816.

Quern, now part of a fountain. Of Roborough Elvan. Octagonal. One side of the octagonal is occupied with a mask, gargoyle fashion. The flour was delivered through the widely opened mouth of the mask, stretched the wider by the first fingers of the two sculptured hands.

Octagonal stone of roborough Elvan with a trough 17.25 inches diameter and 4 inches deep. On one side of the octagon is a gargoyle type mask the mouth of which forms the spout hole for the flour. The mouth is being held open by fingers. The stone now forms part of a fountain with the trough of an apple mill.
