Full description
Royal Commission for the Historical Monuments of England, 1987-1993, Duchy Farms Project Survey Visit, P. Pattison (Report - Survey). SDV350839.
(26/07/1990) SX 6962 8036: a leat or drain of unknown date on the lower W slope of Challacombe Down.
It is a channel 1.8m wide and up to 0.5m deep, with very slight traces of an upcast bank on the downslope side, running from SX 6966 8046 close to a group of tin pits [see SX 68 SE 159], diagonally across the contours to a stream at SX 6956 8024, a fall of 25m.
The leat cuts through a field system SX 67 NE 111. It was possibly connected with tinning in the valley bottom.
Surveyed at 1:2500 with SX 67 NE 111.
