Name:Pits on Water Hill

Summary

Two circular depressions on the south-west facing slope of Water Hill, at positions 180m and 250m north of Statts Bridge. They both have level interiors and cleanly cut vertical sides with a consistent internal diameter of 4.8m. An external rim of upcast earth around the circumference of each depression measures up to 1.0m high. Their origin and function are not clear; they may be associated with the adjacent extensive tin working remains, alternatively they may be relatively recent military works.

(10/12/1992) SX 66908084 and SX 66898072. Two circular depressions on the south-west facing slope of Water Hill, at positions 180m and 250m north of Statts Bridge. They both have level interiors and cleanly cut vertical sides with a consistent internal diameter of 4.8m. An external rim of upcast earth around the circumference of each depression measures up to 1.0m high.
Their origin and function are not clear; they may be associated with the adjacent extensive tin working remains, alternatively they may be relatively recent military works.
