Name:Tinner's hut in openworks at Lade Hill Brook

Summary

Remains of a Medieval or later tinner's hut and tinner's cache situated within openworks at Lade Hill Brook. The tinner's hut is set into a spoil heap and measures 4.9 metres by 2.7 metres with walls surviving to a maximum height of 1.1metres. A collapsed entrance with a small porch lies in the southwest corner and there may be the remains of a fireplace against the north wall.

Royal Commission for the Historical Monuments of England, 1987-1993, Duchy Farms Project Survey Visit, M. J. Fletcher (Report - Survey). SDV350839.

(18/8/1990) A ruined tinners building, probably a dwelling, and also a tinner's cache lie within openworks (SX 68 SW 112) on the W slope of a rounded highpoint on the broad valley bottom of the Lade Hill Brook.
SX 63868170. The tinners building is set into a spoil heap and lies along the slope. It measures 4.9m long and 2.7m wide internally with revetted walling two to four courses (0.7m) high except at the N end where the freestanding wall is 1.1m high and 2.0m wide. A collapsed entrance with a small porch lies in the SW corner and there may be the remains of a fireplace against the N wall. The interior is almost completely submerged under material from the tumbled walls.
