Full description
Pye, A. + Westcott, K., 1993, Great Potheridge Farm, Merton. An Archaeological Presentation Survey, 21 (Report - non-specific). SDV11287.
Cattle shed no 3. Built between 1866 and 1886 and incorporated an earlier yard wall. Has a pitched slate roof, a door in the S wall giving access to a feeding passage, and a series of contemporary doors and windows in its E wall providing access to individual stalls. All openings have red brick voussoirs, except the S doorway, which has re-used sandstone voussoirs. These may have originated from the E wing, which was partly demolished and narrowed at this time. Some of the windows contain the remnants of glazing. The provision of a feeding passage, glazing and the narrowness of the stalls suggests that it was built as a calf house. Now used as a cattle shed. Other details: Figs 10,17; pl 22.
