A Second World War pillbox is visible as a structure on aerial photographs of 1941 and 1947, to the east of The Point, Exmouth. The flat-roofed structure, with possible blast door visible along its southwest edge, measures approximately 5m in length by 4m in width and is sited within newly reclaimed land between The Point and Exmouth railway station. The pillbox was part of a number of anti-invasion defences which were put into place along the shoreline of Exmouth during the early stages of the war. The pillbox remains visible as a complete, intact structure on oblique aerial photographs until 1947, although has been completely removed by 1950. The site of the former pillbox is now occupied by the Imperial Recreation Ground.
