Full description

Horner, W., 1996, RAF Station Collaton Cross (Un-published). SDV150968.
Site visited on 12th February 1996. A single air raid shelter is still extant at the RAF Collaton Cross site. The shelter is recorded as an earthwork on the RAF 1946 aerial photograph coverage. The shelter has collapsed but it would appear to have been an arched corrugated iron shelter, set in a trench with concrete over-roofing and earth cover.

The location of the air raid shelter is currently overgrown with brambles (Fig 12). It could not be
determined whether the remains of the shelter which were observed in 1996 are still extant, and if
they are, their current condition. The proposed development sites a house at the approximate location
of the former air raid shelter but since the current state of the shelter is unknown, the impact of this
cannot be determined.
