Full description

North Devon District Council Rescue Archaeology Unit, 1991, North Devon Archaeological Site Code Index, Site Code ND150 (Report - non-specific). SDV63429.

Excavation of Green Lane and environs in 1989. Evidence found for a medieval field system and defences, post medieval industrial works and rubbish pits.

Weddell, P. J., 1992, Archaeological Assessment of CRS Redevelopment Site at 49-52 High Street, Barnstaple, 3 (Report - Assessment). SDV73610.

Several parallel sections of north-south ditches were recorded to the rear of 43 High Street during excavation by North Devon District Council Rescue Archaeology Unit. They were thought to be comparable with features identified at Padfield's Yard as early boundary ditches. They were apparently dug within an accumulation of cultivation soil, and filled with similar material. The east part of the site also contained large 17th century pits, possibly associated with industrial activity.

Cullen, B + Thompson, S, 2013, Joy Street, Green Lanes, Barnstaple, Evaluation, 3 (Report - Evaluation). SDV357185.
