Dyer, M. + Collings, A. G. + Henderson, C. G., 1994, Archaeological Assessment of Proposed Extension to the North Country Inn, 128 Boutport Street, Barnstaple (Report - Assessment). SDV342316.

The rear plot behind the North Country Inn next to Green Lane. The first reference to this plot is in deeds dated 1797, when it is described as the 'garden garden-house and cellar now converted into a stable situate in or near Green Lane'. The description remained the same in the 1805 assignment of mortgage, but by 1817 had altered, and this plot was presumably included under 'all that messuage tenement or dwelling house together with the outhouses stables curtilages'. This was amplified by the 1824 conveyance of 'North Country Inn together with the curtilage behind the same'.
