An ‘Old Marl Pit’ is shown on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6-inch map of 1890 to the southwest of the holloway (Appendix 2: Map 2). Although it is not recorded on the earlier tithe map of 1844 , a slight kink in the field boundary betrays its location.
