The Triangle was originally a grass triangle and contained an ilex oak planted by a young Princess Victoria.

The Triangle, now housing a bus shelter and public conveniences, was a small piece of enclosed and planted land. In the 19th and early 20th century it was a cabstand where horse drawn cabs could be hired. The drinking fountain in Triangle Place, which dates from 1885, was originally placed here.
