Name:Pillow mounds near leat, Hentor Warren

Summary

Pair of mounds near leat. The southern pillow mound survives as a 35m by 11m by 1.5m high, flat topped, sub rectangular mound of soil and stone surrounded by the 2m wide and 0.2m deep ditch from which construction material was quarried. The northern mound survives as an 8m by 4.7m by 1m high mound surrounded on 3 sides by a 2m wide and 0.3m deep quarry ditch. The northern end of this mound has been removed by the Lee Moor China Clay Leat. The V-shaped gully lies between the mounds, measures 0.8m wide and 0.1m deep and the material upcast during its construction survives as a 1.5m wide and 0.2m high bank on the edge of the interior formed by the feature. This may have served as a vermin trap.

Pillow mounds and V-shaped gully at SX 5857 6598 and SX 5855 6600.
