Enclosure shown on early 20th century map.

Ashbrook, K., 1978, Enclosure east of Clay Works (Site Visit). SDV167443.

Prehistoric pound sited near the south-west boundary wall of a field north east of Parkland. This newtake also includes monuments numbered 60 and 61 on Bob Silvester's list of 22 July 1977. Approximately half of the pound is clearly visible in this newtake, but the newtake wall has cut across it. Traces of the rest of the pound are still visible in the wood to the south. One hut is visible on the east side of the pound in the portion to the north of the boundary wall, but it is possible that there are traces of other huts in the wood.

(25/09/1980) At SX 595?16180, on the north-east side of a modern field wall, is the remains of an enclosed hut circle on a south-west slope.
The hut is of Type 2 (SX 56 NE 71), much robbed, with an internal diameter of 4.7m and double-faced walling on the upper side, 1.3m wide, just protruding through the turf.
The enclosure, truncated by the modern wall, is now of about .06 hectares and formed by large boulders and slabs (see ground photograph). The interior has not been cleared of stone but externally on the north-east a build-up of soil has reached the top of the perimeter boulders, a height of 0.8m (see ground photograph).
Surveyed at 1:2500 on M.S.D.

SX5958 6187 - Settlement and field system.
Prehistoric terraced fields and settlement enclosure, east of Parkland, approximately along the 860 foot contour.
Main feature is a prehistoric enclosure cut by later east-west (probably post-medieval) wall. Dimensions approximately 35.0 metres east-west and 45 metres north-south. Northern half of the enclosure is marked on the map, and is relatively well-preserved. Contains a hut circle 6.0 metres in diameter in the north-eastern corner.
The south part of the enclosure (within the survey area) is less visible. The western boundary of the enclosure continues downslope, with banks / walls joining from east and west forming a series of roughly parallel terraced fields along the contours immediately below the later post-medieval wall, joining another associated enclosure and fields (to the west).

Linear and curvilinear banks are identifiable.

An irregularly shaped enclosure approximately 35m long and 28m wide, defined by earthwork banks 2.5 to 3m wide, is identifiable on visualisations derived from lidar data captured between 1998 and 2017 under tree cover on the south-west facing slopes east of Cholwich Town.
The enclosure is part of the wider settlement and associated field system of probable Bronze Age to Iron Age date, recorded as MDV79188.
The enclosure and wider field system are aligned roughly north-west to south-east along the combe slope.
The prehistoric settlement system was partly incorporated into a later, medieval or post-medieval field system. A boundary probably associated with this later system appears to bisect the prehistoric enclosure, close to its south-eastern boundary.
A hut circle (MDV79192) is recorded within the enclosure.
The enclosure has been transcribed as part of MDV79189.
