The camp was created in 1943 and locally known as 'Tin Town', part of H.M.S. Appledore. The huts were used as temporary council housing after the war for approximately 6 years. No references given.

A complex of 21 huts of Nissen type and dimensions is visible on aerial photographs between 1945 and 1953. It is associated with the Second World War military defence and training areas, and are thought to have been reused after the war as temporary housing. Aerial photographs taken in 1953 show that three huts had been removed, and the remainder of the huts had been demolished and replaced by housing before 1956. The circular reservoirs to the north-east and north-west may have provided water to the camp.
