Course of an ancient trackway that crosses the border of the moor from Fatherford to Saxongate and on towards Meldon. It has nothing to justify the name 'Roman Way' except the discovery of Roman coins in 1897. Saxongate may have referred to the pathway used from Saxon times. The track extends for 2.5 kilometres through the area of 13th century settlements. Minor hollow ways connect this route to the scattered groups of longhouses and their associated fields.
