A D-shaped pit or hollow circa 18m by 22m in size is visible on images derived from lidar data captured in 2013 as an earthwork south of Exeter Racecourse, Chudleigh, terraced into the south-facing slopes of Great Haldon, on the northern edge of a forestry track. The visible earthwork does not correspond with any feature depicted on the Ordnance Survey Second Edition 25inch map of circa 1904-1906. The pit is interpreted as a quarry, potentially of early 20th century date, possibly associated with the construction of the track it abuts.
