Summary

Two adjacent ring ditches, one complete, diam c.10m, to s, one incomplete, diam c.20m to n. Recorded from the air as cropmarks by b. Horner in 1994 (aph).

Three ring ditches probably bronze age. The smallest ring is immediately nw of the southern ring ditch. It is not known whether the features are contemporary (nt).

A circular ring ditch of probable Bronze Age to Roman date is visible on aerial photographs as a cropmark on the gentle west-facing slopes overlooking the River Culm. The cropmark of the ditch is on average roughly 3 metres in width, enclosing an area approximately 27 metres in diameter. The cropmark is somewhat diffuse in character but no evidence of a break or possible entrance is visible. The ring ditch is probable evidence of a round barrow of Bronze Age date but could also be interpreted as evidence of an unenclosed round house of Iron Age to Roman date. A similar sized ring ditch is visible circa 20 metres to the north, and a smaller incomplete ring ditch is location immediately to the north-west. Previously recorded in a single record with MDV108814 and MDV108815.
