Waterwheels at Blanchdown Farm, powered by leats, powered machinery at Wheal Anna Maria. The power was transferred via flat rods, the courses of which may still be seen.

Flat rod cutting running from the water wheel at SX43437305 (see PRN 56088) to Engine Shaft at Wheal Anna Maria mine SX42687364 (see PRN 51099) dating from 1849. The survey in 2002 found sections of the overgrown cuttings. At SX42807354 the cutting was 0.4m deep x 7m wide across the top of the banks. At SX42937344 a small stone faced arched bridge c4m long x 3.5m high goes over the flat rod cutting. At SX43317315 a small stone bridge had been built to allow the flat rods to run under a mine track & at SX43347312 the flat rod gulley was cut by a leat (see PRN 56111). Conservation works are planned as part of the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project. These include repairs to the two small flat rod gully bridges, comprising of removal of ivy growth and loose lime mortar (which will be replaced with a new equivalent where appropriate) from the facing walls of the bridges, parapet walls re-capped where they exist, and masonry rebuilt where it has been damaged.
