Full description
Horner, W., 1996, Untitled Source (Site Visit). SDV101913.
Possible iron smelting or associated site. Mr S Horner reports finding burnt material when uprooting and replanting in orchard adjoining Old Woodhayne Farm. The site is on a moderate southeast facing slope at the head of a coombe where the farm sits. Slag has been found in the farm vegetable garden (see PRN 56245). Other details: Location Plan.

Tap slag from a furnace found at Woodhayne probably came from iron production at the site in the Roman or Anglo Saxon period.
