BIRD + HIRST, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV221965.

Brimpts north mine mill. Stamps loading mound. The track (subsheet 14/1) from the adit tail ended in a mound from which the ore could have been loaded into the stamps for crushing. The mound is 7m wide at base, 10m long and tapers in height from c.2m at s end to nothing. Part of the wheelpit adjoins the se corner and it is presumed that a launder ran along the e side to the waterwheel with a branch along the s side to supply the stamps and the dressing floor, but the functions of the various small fragments of inset walling cannot be identified with any specific function. Construction material for the mound is likely to have been the spoil displaced by digging of the wheelpit (bird + hirst).
