BIRD + HIRST, Untitled Source (Migrated Record). SDV221965.

Brimpts north mine mill. Structure se of wheelpit. In order to bring water from the leat to the top of the waterwheel, almost all of the wheel had to be set below original ground level and this resulted in a tail-race channel also 6m below surface level on exit from the wheelpit. On the e side of this channel at this point are traces of what appears to heve been a retaining wall with an excavated area behind. The crank driving the flat-rods would have been positioned on the e side of the wheel and this excavation may have been for a balance bob connected to this (bird + hirst).
