HER Number:MDV56522
Name:Electrical Sub-Station, Dunkeswell Airfield

Summary

Sub-station. Construction: nine inch brick walls supporting reinforced concrete roof. Building divided up into three bays. All entrances protected by blast walls. Function: this was the main intake sub-station for the airfield site - into here came the outside supply with a line pressure of 11,000 volts, a pair of transformers in their own chambers reduced this to provide an air ministry supply of 400/230 volts which left the building via switchgear apparatus. Being the main intake sub-station, this is a building as opposed to an enclosure such as was normally built around sub-stations. Building in good condition with open bays and gates removed (francis).
