Full description
Francis, P., 1995, Blackdown Hills Airfield Survey. Dunkeswell and Upottery, No. 76, Fig. 23 (Report - Survey). SDV312951.
Open blast shelter. Construction: Unrendered nine inch brick wallod enclosure. For use by personnel using the station offices and crew briefing room. In good condition but very overgrown. Internal inspection not possible.

Dunkeswell Airfield is a former World War II airfield, most of which was sold into private ownership some years ago. The land retained by the Ministry of Defence was more latterly used as a training area, of which the operations block and the adjacent buildings were part. The buildings are no longer required for training purposes but there is need to make them safe before Ordnance Clearance can be completed. The buildings also pose a general health and safety hazard which needs to be addressed.
The proposed works to the blast shelters are for the enclosures to be filled with soil to form earth mounds.

The bunker was filled in by the MOD in about 2003. It has now been cleared.
