Full description

North Devon District Council Rescue Archaeology Unit, 1991, North Devon Archaeological Site Code Index, Site Code ND10 (Report - non-specific). SDV63429.

Trial trenching took place at Little Pill in 1986. (The NGR is given as SS5560 3160).

Mills, A., 1996, Pill Farm or Portmore? (Personal Comment). SDV79502.

Trenching by NDRAU reportedly found Early medieval pottery at Pill Farm. This site may be confused with Portmore Farm (See PRN 38912) but locals clear that pottery found at Pill.

Horner. W., 1997, Earthworks, Axe, Pottery, Coin Hoard (Site Visit). SDV87028.

Site visit 13th May 1997. Shown position of finds and pipe trench by local fieldworkers.

Horner, W., 1997, Earthworks, Axe, Pottery and Coin Hoard (Worksheet). SDV79103.

Site visit 13th May 1997. Finds include medieval pottery.

Exeter Archaeology, 2000, Archaeological Assessment of a Proposed Development Area at Larkbear Near Barnstaple, 7, 11 (Report - Assessment). SDV79105.

Watts, S., 2014, Pill Farm or Portmore Farm (Personal Comment). SDV355875.

There appears to be confusion over the sites of trenches dug by NDRAU at Pill Farm, Little Pill and/or Portmore Farm in the 1980s. Possibly ND10 was at Little Pill in 1986 (although the NGR given is wrong) and ND19 at Portmore in 1987 (the NGR is for Portmore but it is listed as Pill Farm).
